King Street Commuter Rail Station – Northern Virginia Transportation Commission

Project Summary

This project was part of the overall construction of the Virginia Railway Express.  Work consisted of various improvements to the commuter rail station including demolition of the existing passenger platform and construction of a new 470 foot long raised, reinforced concrete platform; construction of a new canopy structure for passenger waiting area; repair of leaking pedestrian tunnel leading to the passenger platform; security fencing; installation of electrical and telephone utilities and provision for storm drainage; platform lighting and PA system; handicap access ramps and facilities for boarding; and signage for general information of directions. The passenger waiting area was equipped with new ticket vending and validation machines, telecommunication system and other amenities.
