Alpha Corporation has been selected by the National Park Service to provide construction management services for Phases 2, 3A, and 3B of the National Mall Turf and Soil project. The National Mall is a cultural landscape which includes tree and turf-covered panels between the US Capitol and Washington Monument. More than 25 million visitors walk on these landscapes every year, compacting the soil structure, destroying the turf, and leaving behind a poor visual quality for the National Mall. The scope of this project will focus on improving turf area conditions by re-engineering the soil; replacing the irrigation systems; installing drainage systems including granite curb, inlets and underground water collection systems, and storage structures; and re-establishing turf. The first phase of this project for which Alpha Corporation also provided construction management was completed in December 2013 and included rehabilitation of three turf panels (just west of the US Capitol), installation of two underground cisterns, and an underground pump station.
