Route 3 Improvement – Virginia Department of Transportation

Project Summary

This $23.6 million project included widening approximately 5.1 miles of an existing two-lane highway into a new four-lane divided highway between Stevensburg and Lignum. The primary need was improvement of safety along the Route 3 corridor. Its completion provides a four-lane roadway from Culpeper to Fredericksburg. The design-build work included MOT considerations, earthwork, drainage, asphalt paving, a 63-parcel ROW acquisition program, multiple utility relocations including protection of three major underground transcontinental gas pipe lines, environmental remediation and permitting.
