Project Summary
Alpha was the NPS Construction Manager Representative for the Sperry Chalet Restoration Phase 2 project. We provided comprehensive on-site construction advisory services including construction oversite and coordination, quality assurance, and project controls. The work focused on the stabilization and reconstruction of the historic dormitory building destroyed by wildfire. Phase 2 involved completing the building envelope and finishing work, including restoration of existing masonry walls, installation of a permanent cedar shake roof, and the placement of new windows and doors. Additional work included construction of interior and exterior staircases, exterior porch and balcony decking with finish railings, tongue-and-groove wood flooring and trim, and interior painting.
The site is extremely remote and is accessible only by hiking or on horseback. Alpha’s construction manager lived in a backcountry location onsite throughout construction. All construction materials were delivered via helicopter in two stages: first to a designated helicopter landing zone, then to a mule staging area for final transport to the site.
